The practice was established in Leeds in 1992 and in 2006 they built their studio in Chapeltown. They work collaboratively with clients, end-users, artists, makers and wider communities. BLA practice a user-centered approach to design, helping all involved to focus on creating social value through each design project.
To keep up with the fast pace of change they integrate research and development into their practice. This approach allows for the opportunities of new technologies to be investigated and applied to enhance engagement.
The practice works only within two hours travel from the Leeds studio enabling BLA to have a close relationship with clients and places they work in. Since 2012 BLA have worked a 5-day week in 4 days to help to facilitate a better balance between work and home life.
