Fearnville Leisure Centre
We are not open to visits from the public every day. Our makerspace programme will be starting soon, keep an eye on updates here and our social media for more info.
Fearnville Leisure Centre is located in Gipton, at the gateway to Fearnville Fields and the Wyke Beck Valley trail. There is ample free parking directly outside the Leisure Centre. The number 42 bus from the city centre via Burmantofts and Harehills stops nearby on Oakwood Lane, a short 2-3 minute walk from us.
Access to Squash Court 1 at Fearnville Leisure Centre
As an organisation we are committed to providing accessible environments and we want to find solutions to barriers those working with us, or engaging with our work, may face.
Our current venue in an outdated Leisure Centre is not barrier-free and poses some challenges but we are open to working in other locations. Our longer-term aim is to create an accessible and welcoming community-led makerspace in Gipton, something we are actively working towards with partners including Leeds City Council and local people.
Access barriers at our current venue:
Approach to Main Entrance
There are steps leading to the main entrance, but ramped access a little further along the building to the left.
Entrance is through an automatic door which opens outwards but is wide enough for a wheelchair.
The entrance to the corridor leading to the squash courts is on the ground floor and is accessed from the main Reception area. The door and corridor leading to the squash courts are quite narrow.
The entrance to our space is the first on the right along this corridor.
There are toilets right at the end of this corridor, but there is a step and the cubicles are not wheelchair accessible. There are no other accessible toilets in the building.
Squash Court 1
Squash Court 1 is a nice, big space with high ceilings but no windows (this image was taken before we moved in). We’re working to improve it and make it more welcoming. We have simple kitchen facilities with warm drinks and food available. The space is lit from above by ceiling-mounted strip lighting.
